Mission Statement

We, the New Women’s Movement aim to organise and mobilise the women of the Western Cape, both locally and regionally, to work towards the radical transformation of society and the changing of the status quo. We do this in order to challenge the unequal power relations which exists politically, economically, socially and between rural and urban women.

Who is the New Women's Movement?

  • We are a grassroots women’s organisation that started its work in 1997 and has branches throughout the Western Cape.
  • We unite independent women across racial, religious and political barriers.
  • We take up issues affecting the lives of women in poor urban and rural communities.
  • We work together with other organisations who want to better the lives of women and children.
  • We challenge the conditions of poor struggling women and their children.

Why should you join the New Women's Movement?
  • We are an organisation run by women, fighting issues of poverty, domestic violence, child abuse, HIV/AIDS and other economic and social issues affecting women.
  • We empower women so that they may know their legal and human rights.
  • We believe that uniting women will build strength.
